The Misfit Project is a charity organization, based in Melbourne's outer east, dedicated to empowering young people through creativity.

In our early days, we were a theatre company for young people by young people. We looked out for each other and made impactful theatre tackling issues of the times. We had created a safe place for young people to feel a sense of belonging and feel comfortable enough to express themselves authentically. In doing this, we noticed not only the positive benefits but also, and unfortunately, a need from young people to have more safe places, to feel included, and to feel connected to the community. 

 

And this is where The Misfit Project comes into the story. The transformation into a youth support organization was natural, and even more so to do it with a creative paradigm. What began with theatre programs quickly evolved into a plethora of programs, providing mentoring and running camps.

 

Today, The Misfit Project mentors over 80 young people, facilitate programs to over 150 participants and run two months per year of camps.
